Former President Donald Trump has alleged voter fraud in Arizona’s Senate race and demanded a do-over after The Associated Press and other media outlets called the race against his endorsed candidate, Republican Blake Masters, while handing incumbent Sen. Mark Kelly (D-Ariz.) a projected win. Trump said in a post on Truth Social that “possibly corrupt” officials had “lost control of the tainted Election in Arizona” after the race was called for Kelly. “This is a scam and voter fraud, no different than stuffing the ballot boxes. They stole the Electron [sic] from Blake Masters. Do Election over again!” Trump wrote on the platform.…
Paul Tierney blew his whistle, the ball dropped out of the sky and was grabbed by Tim Ream, and history was made as the Premier League, for the first time ever, broke for the World Cup. The final game before the six-week shutdown was an enjoyable romp that culminated with that most familiar of tropes, a last-minute Manchester United winner, slid in by the 18-year-old substitute Alejandro Garnacho. A crisp evening by the Thames. The bells of All Saints welcoming the throng through Bishops Park. Smoke rising from the fast-food vans into the chill, clear air. The trees an autumnal gold. In…
Footage released today showed Ukrainian soldiers near a highway 19 miles north-west of Russian-controlled Kherson. The location of the video was confirmed by the drainage, road layout, a small building and surrounding trees which match the file and satellite photography of the area. A soldier in the video held a Ukrainian flag and said that the 28th separate mechanised brigade broke the first Russian line of defence and was advancing towards Kherson. Ukrainian forces have advanced 4.3 miles in two directions in the south and captured 12 new settlements in the last 24 hours, Ukrainian army chief Valeriy Zaluzhnyi said…
Republicans look like winning 222 House seats compared with the Democrats’ 213, meaning they would still take majority control but with much less authority than the 40+ gains anticipated by some pollsters. The race for the Senate is also very much in the balance, with just four seats left to declare. Georgia’s race is set for a run-off on 6 December so we may have to wait until then for the final standings. The Democrats made a potentially crucial gain in Pennsylvania but the Republicans managed to hold out in a tight race in Wisconsin – a state won by…
Mississippi officials confirmed that it was hit with a cyber-attack on state election websites on Tuesday. “Yesterday, our offices confirmed an abnormally large increase in traffic volume due to DDoS activity, which caused the public-facing side of our websites to be periodically inaccessible,” Secretary of State Michael Watson said in a press release on Wednesday. “At this time, we do not have confirmation as to where the DDoS activity originated, and more evidence would be required to attribute to any person or group.” Watson added that his office can “confidently say our election system was not compromised.” According to Cloudflare, DDoS, an acronym for distributed…
Manchester United and Aston Villa produced a borefest before the break and a classic cup thriller after the half-time oranges which featured six goals and ended with the effervescent substitute Alejandro Garnacho creating the Bruno Fernandes and Scott McTominay strikes that took Erik ten Hag’s team into the last 16, where they will face Burnley. Robin Olsen was Villa’s culprit for the Fernandes goal that made it 3-2: the goalkeeper’s slipshod pass went straight to Garnacho and after Fernandes collected from the winger his effort deflected in off Tyrone Mings. Then, in added time, McTominay slid home from Garnacho’s sweetly…
Kwasi Kwarteng has revealed he told Liz Truss to “slow down” and warned her she would “have two months” if she continued at the same rate with her radical mini-budget measures. Kwarteng, who was sacked as chancellor last month by the then-prime minister after less than six weeks in the job, also criticised the “mad” decision to dismiss him for implementing her tax-cutting agenda. The government’s £45bn tax cuts triggered economic turmoil, with government borrowing costs soaring, the pound plummeting to a 37-year low and the Bank of England intervening to rescue £65bn worth of pension funds. Truss subsequently resigned after 45 days in office,…
The 17.6% pay rise understood to be demanded by nurses who have voted to strike has been described as “remarkably high” by a cabinet minister, who admitted the expected action this winter would “completely disrupt” the NHS. Chris Heaton-Harris, the Northern Ireland secretary, said it was “difficult to judge” whether nurses were currently paid enough and that while it was not his “area of expertise”, he believed their job was “a vocation”. He said that nurses had a starting salary of £27,000 rising to around the mid-£30,000s, and asked: “Is that enough? Who can put a value on care like that?”…
House prices stalled last month after more than two years of growth as a sharp rise in mortgage rates fuelled caution among buyers, according to Britain’s official surveyors body. The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) also predicted that rents will be 4% higher in a year’s time due to an imbalance between strong tenant demand and the supply of homes to let. Across the UK, 2% more property professionals reported house prices falling rather than rising, Rics said, ending a 28-month run of growth readings. However, there was some regional variation in price trends. While prices were heading downwards…
Republican state Sen. Zach Nunn has defeated incumbent Democrat U.S. Rep. Cindy Axne in Iowa’s 3rd Congressional District election. Results showed Nunn with 156,237 votes (50.26 percent) compared to 154,084 (49.57 percent) for Axne, according to The Associated Press, which called the race on Nov. 9. “We’re going to work with people not just across the aisle, but every Iowan who wants to make a dedicated move to make our state better—and by result, our country better,” Nunn said during his victory speech. “Representing Iowa’s Third Congressional District has been one of the best opportunities of my life and I hope…
