HEALTH WORKERS END NATIONWIDE 72-HOUR STRIKE IN CHILE – The workers demand the government enhance security measures in primary care centers
Chilean healthcare workers concluded a nationwide 72-hour strike, demanding that the government enhance security measures in primary care centers and allocate additional funding.
The strike culminated in a march through Santiago, the capital, where hundreds of healthcare workers protested in front of the national palace against the violence inflicted on professionals by patients.
Gabriela Flores, president of the National Confederation of Health Officials (Confusam), warned the government that they would resort to more radical measures in April if their conditions do not improve.
In 2024, there were 10,407 reported attacks on public health workers, according to Confusam’s reports citing data from the Ministry of Health, with an average of 28.5 daily incidents, 73.3% of which were verbal and 14.3% physical.
