CHILE’S PRESIDENT ENFORCES A STATE OF EMERGENCY-Boric reports gradual restoration of power and imposes curfews
Chilean President Gabriel Boric, who has enforced a state of emergency in the country, stated on Tuesday night that power had been restored to half of the 8 million homes recently affected by a massive power outage across the Andean nation.
Boric has also imposed a curfew that would be enforced from 01:00 to 09:00 GMT from the northern region of Arica to the southern region of Los Lagos.
The widespread blackout was caused by a transmission line failure in the country’s north, Interior Minister Carolina Toha said, ruling out a cyber attack as a cause.
On Tuesday night dimly-lit buildings and dark streets could be seen across the capital Santiago amidst the power outage.
