ASTRAZENECA IN £80M COVID JAB COMPENSATION CLAIM Is how risk was calculated to blame
Lawyers of 35 victims of the AstraZeneca Covid vaccine have demanded a huge £80m in compensation for the injuries sustained after taking the vaccine. The cases have been linked to the deaths of at least 81 people and caused serious harm to hundreds more. The claims allege the AstraZeneca vaccine is “defective”.
The vaccine has been linked to a condition that causes blood clots called Vaccine-Induced Immune Thrombocytopenia and Thrombosis (VITT). In about one in five cases, patients who contracted VITT sadly died. 40 more claims are expected to be lodged at the High Court.
If AstraZeneca loses the case, the end bill could be around £80m, making it one of the most expensive vaccine litigation cases ever. AstraZeneca has generated almost $37.4bn in revenue, due to its vaccine.
The case being brought under the Consumer Protections Act argues that the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine was less safe than consumers were entitled to expect, given the efficacy figures presented at the time.
A claim that claimants argue was “vastly overstated”.
Many of the claimants have received one-off fixed tax-free payments of £120,000 under the government’s Vaccine Damage Payment Scheme (VDPS), which provides compensation for those injured or to bereaved next of kin.
