FORMER ADVISER CUMMINGS DESCRIBES ‘DUMPSTER FIRE’ UK CABINET IN COVID-19 INQUIRY – Giving evidence to an inquiry into the government’s handling of the pandemic
Dominic Cummings, the former adviser to ex-British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, on Tuesday described the UK Cabinet Office as a “bomb site” and “dumpster fire” as it attempted to navigate the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020.
Giving evidence to an inquiry into the government’s handling of the pandemic, Cummings said Johnson was referred to as a “trolley” due to his tendency to change the direction of policy.
Profane language used by Cummings to describe government ministers was also read out, as well as a message sent to Johnson after Cummings departed Downing Street in November 2020, in which he described the government as a “disgusting orgy of narcissism”. Cummings also discussed his lack of confidence in Johnson’s handling of the crisis, describing the then-prime minister as dismissive.
